What is CBD?

CBD (short for cannabidiol) is a naturally occurring, non-intoxicating cannabinoid found in the hemp plant. However, CBD isn’t the only hemp-derived compound worth noting. Several secondary cannabinoids and flavorful terpenes work in synergy alongside CBD in our Whole-Plant hemp products.

What are cannabinoids?

Cannabinoids are compounds produced in specialized “hairs” (called glandular trichomes) on the surface of hemp plants. Cannabis has adapted to growing in many climates through the production of cannabinoids as a form of protection. They can provide defense against harsh environments and natural predators while also attracting insect pollinators.

Incredibly, our bodies are naturally wired with receptors that interact with the cannabinoids found in cannabis. Of these, CBD and THC are the most abundant and therefore the most studied cannabinoids. However, there are well over 100 trace compounds in cannabis with potential benefits we have yet to explore.

What are terpenes?

Terpenes (pronounced tur-peens) and flavonoids give cannabis its taste and smell. These aromatic compounds are also found in fruit, spices, and other plants to produce scents ranging from sweet citrus to more pungent odors. Beyond simply producing smells, terpenes also work in synergy with cannabinoids to contribute to the Entourage Effect within the body’s endocannabinoid system.

How does CBD work and what is the endocannabinoid system?

The benefits associated with CBD and other hemp-derived compounds can be experienced thanks to a widespread network of cannabinoid receptors known as the endocannabinoid system, or ECS. The role of the ECS is to maintain a physiological balance called homeostasis in processes throughout the body.

The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is located in the mammalian brain and throughout the central and peripheral nervous systems, consisting of neuromodulatory lipids and their receptors. There are two main types of receptors in the ECS: CB1 and CB2. CB1 receptors are primarily located in the central nervous system and brains of mammals, and CB2 are generally found in the peripheral nervous system.

When you add CBD to your daily routine, alongside a healthy diet and exercise, you’re supporting the many functions of your endocannabinoid system.

How much CBD should I take?

There’s no one-size-fits-all when it comes to CBD. Everyone is different and will respond to hemp extracts in different ways. Finding your ideal strength and serving might require some adjustment over time. We always suggest starting with the recommended serving size and adjusting as needed to find your personal “sweet spot.” The goal is always a feeling of balance, whatever that may mean for you.

How much CBD should I give to my pet?

Because our pets also have an endocannabinoid system, we developed a line of hemp-derived CBD just for them. Our four-legged companions come in all shapes and sizes, so while we can offer general guidelines, it’s best to start low. From there, adjust as needed to find the ideal serving for your pet.

Typical suggested servings start at 1mg to 5mg of CBD per 10lbs of body weight.

What should I expect when taking CBD?

Everyone is unique and may have a slightly different experience when taking CBD. For most people, CBD as a daily supplement can provide a general sense of balance and well-being by supporting the endocannabinoid system. This is often described as a feeling of calm, relaxation, and relief from everyday stresses.

Will CBD get me high?

No, Hemplucid products are derived from a hemp genetic that contains less than 0.3% THC (the cannabinoid that causes the high associated with “marijuana”). Our CBD products are non-intoxicating.

What is "Full-Spectrum" or "Whole-Plant" CBD?

In our products, the terms “full-spectrum” and “whole-plant” both refer to an extract that contains all the compounds found in our premium hemp genetics. This includes CBD, several secondary cannabinoids (including trace amounts of THC), and a robust terpene profile. Hemplucid’s full-spectrum, whole-plant CBD is the only way to experience the complete synergy offered by the hemp plant.

What is CBD isolate?

CBD Isolate, as the name implies, is just that: isolated CBD. We understand the trace amounts of THC found in our whole-plant extracts aren’t compatible with everyone’s lifestyle. Our THC-free line of products offers the benefits of CBD without secondary cannabinoids, terpenes, or other hemp compounds. Fortunately, even isolated CBD can support the endocannabinoid system in balancing processes throughout the body.

What's the difference between CBD and THC?

CBD (cannabidiol) and THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) are the two most abundant cannabinoids found in cannabis plants. However, each of these compounds interacts with the body in different ways.

CBD is non-intoxicating and supports the function of the endocannabinoid system by working alongside other phytocannabinoids (meaning from a plant) and endocannabinoids (produced by our own bodies).

THC has a strong binding affinity with receptors in the ECS and is responsible for the high associated with “marijuana”. However, in the trace amounts found in hemp, THC is more subtle. Rather than causing a euphoric high, traces of THC compliment the entourage effect experienced when consuming Whole-Plant hemp extracts.

Which extraction method does Hemplucid use?

We use a supercritical CO2 extraction method to produce a clean, solvent-free hemp extract. Our products undergo the process of decarboxylation and winterization where ethanol is used (none will be found in our final product) to remove the fats and waxes your body cannot break down.

Does Hemplucid provide third-party test results?

Yes. All of our products are tested at multiple intervals throughout growth, extraction, and formulation. We provide third-party lab test results (called a Certificate of Analysis) for our concentrated extracts and finished product batches. These test results list cannabinoid and terpene profiles.

THC-Free CBD Products:
Our THC-free CBD products are tested at several intervals of the manufacturing process to ensure undetectable levels of THC. In rare cases, it may be possible to trigger a false positive on a drug test when using THC-free products due to other cannabinoid metabolites.

There's a black spot/ring in my CBD, is this normal?

If you notice a darker coloration near the top of your tincture, don’t worry! Your CBD hasn’t gone bad, that’s just nature doing its thing.

Hemplucid products are made with natural ingredients, and because of that, hemp extracts will begin to separate from their carrier oils over time. This is more noticeable in water-soluble tinctures and vape products because of the difference in the density between the hemp extract and organic vegetable glycerin.

To keep your tinctures properly mixed, we recommend giving them a good shake before each use. If you find yourself facing a particularly stubborn tincture, try running the bottle under warm water for a few minutes to heat it up for easier mixing.
