When you see the USDA organic seal, words like healthy, natural, or clean may come to mind. Products without these seals are not inherently unhealthy or unclean, however, this seal proves that the quality of the item has been evaluated from farm to market. It’s an easy to spot symbol that reduces the need to scour a product’s ingredient list to make a health-conscious decision.
What Makes a Product Organic?
Understanding what “organic” means is a helpful tool when shopping for groceries and supplements. The U.S Department of Agriculture (USDA) states, “Becoming familiar with the USDA organic label and understanding its claims empower consumers to make informed decisions about the food they purchase. While there are many marketing claims that add value to foods, consumers can be assured that USDA organic products are verified organic at all steps between the farm and the store.”
According to the USDA, certified organic items are grown and processed to federal guidelines that address, “...among many factors, soil quality, animal raising practices, pest and weed control, and use of additives. Organic producers rely on natural substances and physical, mechanical, or biologically based farming methods to the fullest extent possible.”
Why Organic Hemp Matters
Our industry is still in its infancy, and getting federal certifications can be quite a challenge as market demand has quickly outpaced regulation in the CBD space.
Clean soil is essential when growing organic hemp because hemp is a bioaccumulator, meaning it’s particularly effective at absorbing pesticides and other chemicals from the soil and is unable to expel the substances as waste. The fact that soil cannot have had prohibited substances (like synthetic fertilizers and pesticides) applied for at least 3 years prior to harvest is an initial hurdle for some newer hemp farmers seeking USDA Organic certification.
Knowing a product comes from certified organic hemp is the quickest way to ensure the extract you’re consuming is free from harmful chemicals, synthetic fertilizers, and pesticides. No one needs that stuff in their body.
Happily, we’ve been at this for a while and are now able to offer USDA certified organic CBD products. Our hemp has always been grown to organic standards, and now we have the seal to prove it.
Why Aren’t All Hemplucid CBD Products Organic?
Safety, potency, and purity are at the heart of our product strategy. And whether or not the final product is wholly USDA organic, we use extensive internal testing and third-party cannabis labs to ensure our final products meet our highest standards of quality.
Rest assured, all of our CBD products, organic and non-organic, are made with the same premium USDA certified organic hemp and will offer the soothing benefits Hemplucid customers rely on.
The biggest difference between Hemplucid organic and non-organic products is in the secondary ingredients (carrier oils, emulsifiers, etc.) that are combined with these hemp extracts. New organic ingredients need to be tested in our product formulations and certified by the USDA before they enter the market.
