How To Make A Healthy Shamrock Shake

Our version of the famous shake shares a lot of ingredients with a green smoothie. The classic drink usually contains as many calories as a meal, made with three ingredients — ice cream, syrup, and whipped cream. 

While McDonald's has taken steps to include reduced fat ice cream and light whipped cream, it's still full of unhealthy fats and sugars for those looking to live a healthier lifestyle. 

Luckily, no four leaf clovers are needed to enjoy a healthy shamrock shake recipe. 

Healthy Shamrock Shake Recipe

Ingredients

  • ¾ - 1 cup milk of choice
  • ½ avocado, pitted
  • ¼ cup frozen or fresh spinach 
  • ½ - 1 cup ice 
  • ⅛ tsp pure peppermint extract
  • 1 ml mint-flavored CBD (Water-Soluble or MCT Oil)
  • Sweetener of choice 
  • Optional toppings - fresh mint leaves, cacao nibs or mini chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Add all ingredients, except ice and optional toppings, to a blender. Blend until smooth. 
  2. Add ice, taste, and adjust as needed to meet your taste and texture preferences. 
  3. Enjoy! 

Simple Substitutions

Milk (Dairy-free options!) 

To make this healthy shake dairy free, you can use the following as possible substitutes: 

  • Lactose-free milk
  • Coconut milk
  • Almond milk 

Really any alternative milk you choose could work! Nut milks are great because they can add nutrients. Look for sources fortified with vitamin D and calcium when possible.

Mint Flavor

Instead of pure peppermint extract, you can use a handful of fresh mint leaves! If the shake isn't minty enough for you, increase the amount of pure peppermint extract to ¼ teaspoon.
