CBD oil is everywhere. A recent analysis conveyed that there were 6.4 million Google searches of “CBD” and “cannabidiol” in April 2019—that’s approximately 117.7 percent higher than in 2018. As you’re looking into CBD oil, you’ll likely come across a ton of information that may raise several questions. And we don’t blame you; treading into new product territory can get overwhelming and even risky if you’re not looking in the right places.

Hemplucid is here to make your journey into the hemp world a little easier by providing a list of CBD oil pros and cons that will help steer you towards making educated decisions.

The Pros of CBD Oil

CBD oil has gained serious traction in our culture and for good reason. There are several advantages it has to offer:

1. 100% Natural

All cannabinoids and terpenes in CBD oils are naturally occurring compounds that form in the hemp plant. They are often referred to as phytocannabinoids (phyto means “related to plants”). These natural compounds are extracted from the plant to create CBD oil.

Moreover, Hemplucid does not use pesticides or herbicides to grow our products. They are soil tested to ensure that organic, nutrient-rich, viable, and contaminant-free soil is being used on the farms.

2. Fuels Our Endocannabinoid System

Our endocannabinoid system was just discovered within the last 30 years, and it has proven itself as an advantage in the pros and cons of CBD. The phytocannabinoids in CBD oils have a lock-and-key effect with our endocannabinoid system (ECS). The ECS exists in mammals and is composed of neurotransmitters and receptor cells that play a crucial part of our bioregulation. The cannabinoids activate our ECS, fueling homeostasis in our bodies.

3. Non-Intoxicating

Though CBD oils can contain THC, the cannabinoid that produces the “high” in marijuana, they are derived from hemp plants that carry a legal and negligible THC amount no greater than 0.3 percent on a dry weight basis. This isn’t enough to create intoxicating effects. Therefore, CBD oil is well-tolerated by most people.

4. Comes in Diverse Forms

Everyone carries different needs and preferences, and this is what the CBD industry

understands. CBD products offer:

  • Variety - CBD oils can come in various forms such as creams, capsules, and gummies. Depending on the route of absorption that works best for you, the diversity that CBD offers makes it helpful for people to find a product that aligns with their needs.

  • Multiple strength levels - CBD oils come in various concentration levels (conveyed in milligrams on the bottles). This gives people options and the opportunity to find the volume that works for their bodies.

5. Suitable for Both Humans and Animals

As mentioned earlier, all mammals carry an ECS that is naturally wired to interact with the cannabinoids in CBD oil. So while you’re shopping for yourself, you can also include your furry friend on the adventure! Not only are there CBD pet products available, but there are also CBD dog recipes you can try out to give your pup the balance and relaxation that they need.

The Cons of CBD Oil

Part of immersing yourself in a robust CBD journey is being exposed to the truth; and a lot of times, the truth isn’t all rainbows and butterflies. But we’re still keeping it real by providing some disadvantages you may encounter with CBD and why:

1. CBD Oils Are Pricey

CBD products are not cheap, and for some, the price may either break or make your decision to purchase CBD oil. And we totally understand. But one thing to note when you’re asking yourself, “why is CBD oil so expensive?” is the cultivation and production process behind the product. The more quality standards are involved (e.g. organic farming, cloning, supercritical CO2 extraction, and third-party lab testing), the higher the price will be.

So though a certain CBD product you’re looking at might be above your budget, it may very well be worth it if it carries high quality standards. After all, you should never compromise your health. Just make sure you do your research to ensure the product has actually gone through the high-caliber farming and manufacturing it claims to come from.

2. Effects Vary—There’s No Ideal Intake Amount

CBD oil requires experimentation; since everyone’s bodies are different, there isn’t a universal amount of CBD that you can take. It all depends on your body. So it might take some time before you find the right quantity and actually start experiencing the benefits.

3. Bitter Taste

CBD oil is known to have a bitter taste that makes many people shy away from it. This is one of the reasons why manufacturers tend to throw in additives and flavors to their CBD products to mitigate some of the pungent taste.

But here’s the thing, a bitter taste is often associated with a cleaner and natural hemp product that is more concentrated; and a higher quality product is likely to give you higher value for your money.

4. Unreliable and Falsely Advertised Products

Last but definitely not least, there are several CBD brands/products out there that make false claims about their products. For example, their items have much less CBD than they claim to have and/or they state they use supercritical CO2 extraction when in reality, they use solvent extraction that leaves chemicals and contaminated residues in their products.

When you’re researching CBD oils, be sure to really dig deep and ensure you’re using products from brands that stay true to their word.

So should you or shouldn’t you try CBD oil? The truth is, everyone’s bodies are different and thus, we can’t pinpoint exactly how CBD oil will affect you. What we can do is encourage you to dig deep to discover reliable and high-quality products. We hope our CBD pros and cons list sheds light on some important facts to be mindful of and help guide you through the market.
